The holy grail of Canon lenses. A super fast heavyweight that will turn heads everywhere you go. We could use every adjective in the book to describe how incredible this lens is, but it will still astound you with it's quality. Even wide open at F2.8 this beast is blisteringly sharp. It works very well with the 2.0x Extender giving an effective 800mm at F5.6 with full auto-focus, or a whopping 1280mm with a crop body.
Under even the most challenging situations we found little difference in quality using the 2.0x Extender. That may be difficult to believe, but several times while looking at our library of test shots the only way we could tell if the extender was used was by looking at the EXIF data!
If you need the reach in low light conditions. This lens allows you to keep shooting long after everyone else has either had to go home. Or push the ISO level up to shotgun blast proportions to get the shot. If you need the speed, this is the biggest fastest piece of Canon glass in the World.
Even with an extender in broad daylight, you will get used to seeing speeds of 1/8000 in your viewfinder. It's heavy, weighing in at 12.0 lbs. Fully packaged in our Pelican case the whole shipping ensemble weighs 40 lbs. It's a $10,000 piece of spectacular engineering that was designed to do one thing. To get the shot that everyone else wish they had.
